^ Heh, was just about to write to you on this subject, but took a quick look and found I've been over this ground before, in March last year apparently — but the long gap since without any new The Bards had made me forget the subject was ongoing until I looked at The Bards 29 just now: that is, all the issues up to and including that one still have "released in (xx)" placeholders. Do you think you could dig out their release dates for me at some point please? I'll do the donkey work of uploading them to the wiki :)
Hi there – just logged on and got your message; will tweak the cover again to make a hybrid of the two versions (knew I shouldn't have bothered perfecting that version with the different typeface for the title) and will post it on here very shortly I hope for your approval!
Heh, no, just the one message! Will have a look at The Long Road Home pages and see what I can do – may just have to create a two-column invisible table to fill the page, much as I did on the Doctor Who page, as don't think there's a way of just 'columnising' the whole page per se.
Had vaguely looked at the thing about the layout changes a while ago when it first got flagged up, and was a little worried, but decided to look at it more properly only nearer the time. Having had a look just now, I don't think there's anything to concern us; in practical terms, the only thing that will change is that there'll be an extra 10 pixels in useable width to play with in the wiki's content space. This means text lines will break differently here and there, and probably throw a few carefully-arranged sentences out of whack compared with how they're currently composed, but I don't think it'll cause any major problems – certainly there are a few pages where tables and so on are sized almost to the last pixel to fit in the existing width (the table of Monomyth issues and covers springs to mind), but since we're gaining space it'll be fine; if we were losing 10 pixels there might be an awkward moment or three!
Just add ?wikiagrid=1&wikiafullheader=1 to the browser address bar after a page URL (e.g. for the main page) to see the 'difference'. Since we don't have a background image it makes no odds there either, though I think the Yellow Site will need a new image by the look of it. Re: the navigation bar; fear not, there's no difference either, since the Extended Wiki Navigation – which is now becoming standard – is what I enabled and customised early in this wiki's life, i.e. the red navigation bar, when it first became available as a sort of beta-test option. It's only those wikis that haven't adopted it yet that will have to adjust come October 3rd. My, aren't we ahead of the curve?!
By the way, did you notice you've made precisely 2,222 edits to the wiki, according to the top of this very page...? :)
Hi DJ, you may notice I've been uploading issue pages for all the The Bards I can lay my hands on – but the one thing I can't do off my own bat is include their publication dates. Can you either fill them all in, or furnish me with a list please so I can add them? Thanks :)
Will look those out just now and, hopefully, add them tomorrow. Realised may take longer to add publication dates as may involve looking through back issues for adverts, unless I remembered to put a note in with them (did with Bards, but not with Booklets, so don't know whether I did with The Bards yet...)
Have the details for #s1, 5 and 21, will hopefully add them tomorrow. Would you mind updating the main page? The 'not much here' spiel is a bit redundant now! You were saying you'd like to rejig the layout, so maybe now's a good time? I'd have a go, but I'm wary of causing chaos with the layout again - plus, I want to get on with Review Supplemental...
Have belatedly added the Previous/Next link boxes to each page, and will hopefully be able to scan the covers soonish. Have also added links to the Bard page, plus the latest Supplement to the list there too!
Hi there – just about to go and make dinner, but noticed you're back on so thought I'd throw this at you as it's been bugging me for ages...
Given that I'm fairly sure you've spelt out you prefer "DJ" to "David" (as opposed to "David-John"), I keep thinking this contradicts that:
"For the first ten issues, DJ Tyrer was credited as David Tyrer, changing to DJ in the first Yearbook, as even the Editor-in-Chief had trouble overriding popular opinion as to what his name should be!"
– because, it sounds as though you bowed to popular opinion that it should be DJ and not David!?!
But – is it actually saying, effectively: "He was fed up of being credited as David, as he'd prefer David-John, but found this being overridden even in his own publication – so changed it to DJ thereafter so it couldn't be shortened against his wishes...??
Thank-you – it was an epic task, but I think I've got it all in there now! Have created the hitherto-overlooked page for the Doctor himself, which was also a looong process thanks to me feeling the need to list which Doctor appeared where (bar the three Doctor X stories, which I haven't looked up: could you oblige, please?), and worked my way through the related pages changing all the links made from his name to the Doctor Who page, so that they now point to the new page... and obviously added in separate DW-page links to each as well. Got all the AUT stories up there as well, which was fun – haven't looked inside the volume for a while...!
Whoopee – we have an ACE page finally: was at 13th most-linked to on the wiki while still a redlink, with 39 inbound wicks. One query, though – should that be "the iconoclasm of Dada", rather than "...of Dad"? Going to take a punt and add the extra A – if I'm wrong, change it back!
I know – The Iconoclasm of Dad has a marvellous ring to it, don't you think?
By the way, I think this instant message exchange system is rather good, don't you? Noticed it on the options on the Admin dashboard a couple of days ago, so thought I'd try enabling it – a lot better for 'live' exchanges than the regular Wall-post system I'd say...
Thank-you – been meaning to for a while, but couldn't muster the enthusiasm until last night, after doing similar revised menu-tables for the ordering/submitting sections of the site. Phew, took a while to do all 50 issues... Going to add some equivalents to the other mags now, if I'm up to it!
Well, I'm only doing the extant issue pages – I'm not going to add 108 separate ones to Bard, for instance!! I think they can wait to be copied upon each new issue page creation in future, which will be a simple enough task for whoever should create the page :)
